Murder and manslaughter are the most serious crimes in New Jersey. A murder conviction carries with it a mandatory minimum sentence of thirty years without the possibility of parole. Even the lesser offense of aggravated manslaughter carries a sentence between 10 and 30 years with a parole ineligibility period of 85% of the sentence.
